Physicians often interact with patients during some of their most vulnerable times, when they are facing a life-threatening illness or nearing death. Integrating spirituality into clinical practice - having difficult yet meaningful conversations - can enhance the patient-physician relationship and improve outcomes. Explore your personal spiritual beliefs to discover ways to better cope with the stresses of a medical career and learn ways to incorporate spirituality into your practice.
Learning Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: - Assess the role of spirituality in their lives and the lives of their patients;
- Recognize the barriers and boundaries of addressing the spiritual issues of patients
- Identify individual leadership styles, recognize strengths and weaknesses to better facilitate effective communication regarding spiritual issues;
- Integrate spirituality into clinical practice to enhance patient satisfaction and improve outcomes;
- Describe the principles of addressing spiritual issues ethically in medical practice; and
- Explore spiritual practices that may reduce stress in physicians and learners.
