Performing Nutrition and Lifestyle Care With Type 2 Diabetes Patients
In the 2017 National Diabetes Statistics Report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 30.3 million Americans – 9.4% of the U.S. population – have diabetes and another 84.1 million have prediabetes.
The rise in diabetes in the U.S. over recent decades has been attributed largely to poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. As a physician or health care provider, you are at the forefront of educating patients about metabolic disorders.
This course is designed to increase knowledge about nutrition and provide tools to help you counsel and educate your patients about the critical role that nutrition plays in type 2 diabetes prevention and management. The course provides research-based information to help physicians and health care providers manage patients with type 2 diabetes.
ACGME/ABMS Competencies This program addresses desirable physician attributes in interprofessional and communication skills, work in interdisciplinary teams, and roles/responsibilities.
Course Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
Demonstrate an increase in knowledge,regarding recommendations for nutrition and lifestyle care for type 2 diabetes patients;
Identify one nutrition-focused education piece that can be used with patients; and
Assemble a set of personal techniques that will enhance ethical responsibility and promote the overall well-being of your patients.
