Respectful Remediation: Addressing Disruptive Behavior in Physicians
How do you create a culture of professionalism? Learn how to identify and assess patterns of disrespectful behavior in your health care team. Incorporating a professional responsibility model of ethics in medicine will help guide medical students, residents, and physicians.
Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
Identify learner’s challenges associated with professionalism and missed opportunities due to behaviors and qualities inconsistent with ethics and professionalism;
Describe virtues that contribute to professionalism and demonstrate behaviors that characterize ethical professional conduct;
Distinguish between appropriate, inappropriate, and disruptive behavior;
Formulate an action plan that fosters professionalism, physician well-being, and resilience; and
Summarize processes that support the development of reflective and resilient lifelong learners who embody professionalism.
