Managing your finances while attending medical school followed by a residency program, throughout a long career maybe with a family to support, and into retirement can be quite complex. If there is one thing that everyone has learned from COVID-19, it is that short-term economics isn’t the answer. Put on your financial hat and discover how to take charge of your finances for the long haul.
Learning Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: - Analyze financial trends that impact physicians from their pre-med years through retirement;
- List the collateral expenses incurred by a medical student through their path to becoming a physician;
- Identify healthy trends regarding medical student scholarship and loan options;
- Assess risks for financial stress and identify healthy practices to reduce the burden of expenses incurred throughout a medical career;
- Recognize that rising debt is surpassing physician income, with a consequence of creating a demographic disparity within the medical workforce; and
- Note the importance of educational curricula addressing physician financial well-being.
