It’s likely you have one or more patients who have, at some time in their life, experienced a traumatic event – perhaps a form of abuse (sexual, emotional, or physical), acts of war, or a life-altering event like the COVID-19 pandemic. That’ s why all physicians, not just pediatricians and psychologists, can benefit from training in a trauma-informed approach to care.
In this episode, Valerie Smith, MD, and Joyce Mauk, MD, members of TMA’s Subcommittee on Behavioral Health, discuss what is trauma and how trauma-informed care can enhance a physician’s interactions with patients.
