Between juggling career and family, physicians are stretched thin. The lines between work and personal life often become blurred, with work spilling over into nonwork time. This course walks participants through a series of exercises to create a personal work-life balance blueprint. The course also provides strategies to help individuals integrate work and life and to help organizations support physicians in this pursuit.
Learning Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
Explain the unique nature of work-life balance for each individual;
Describe risk factors that lead to imbalance and potential ethical violations;
Recognize they must actively initiate and maintain balance in their lives;
Devise a plan to tailor the balancing process to their individual circumstances;
Assess the importance of identifying personal core values congruent with prioritizing life activities;
Recognize that a more balanced life may improve patient care and safety; and;
Identify personal, professional, and ethical consequences of an imbalanced life.
