    Physicians have until Feb. 15 to decide if they want to change their participation status in the Medicare program for 2013. We know that practices are thinking hard about this participation decision. While TMA can’t advise you which direction to take, we can give you detailed information about your participation options and the consequences of those choices. 

    That’s why we've turned to our in-house Medicare specialist to bring you the current information on:

    • Medicare participation vs. nonparticipation options,

    • Future of Medicare payments

    Target Audience:
    This program is designed for physicians, compliance officers, office managers, and billing/coding personnel who are involved in the administration of Medicare-related activities or who develop medical practice projections, business plans, and are in interested in improving their practice’s bottom line. Administrators, and front office staff may also benefit because their need to communicate with all members of the health care team.

    Course Objectives:
    Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

    • Discuss the latest information regarding Congress’ action on the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula and the Medicare fee schedule.

    The Texas Medical Association requires physician to complete 70-percent of the test questions correctly to receive credit for this course.

    Genevieve Davis, Director, Payment Advocacy

    Genevieve Davis is a TMA director of Payment Advocacy. She has been in the healthcare industry since 1994. Genevieve's expertise stems from her extensive experience working in physician practices and in managed care contracting. She has experience in physician office education and training physicians and staff in correct coding/billing practices. Genevieve assists physician practices with issues affecting reimbursement, through the TMA Hassle Factor Log Program and regular meetings with insurance carriers.  She is the coordinator and facilitator of the TMA mini-consultation program.  Genevieve is an active member of the Professional Association of Healthcare Office Management (PAHCOM).



    Donna Kinney, CPA, Director, Research and Data Analysis

    Donna Kinney, CPA, is Director of the Research and Data Analysis Department at the Texas Medical Association.  She is TMA’s in-house expert on physician practice economics, operating costs, fee schedules, and relative value units.  She conducts TMA’s physician surveys, develops TMA’s responses to regulatory actions, and uses data analysis or other research to support physician’s interests in key Texas and federal legislative issues. 


    Experience from these activities led Ms. Kinney to develop information and publications to inform physicians about issues that have financial impact on their practice operations in order to clarify and simplify some of the difficult issues in medical practice.  Ms. Kinney is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a BBA in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.
